The annual Spelling Bee held Thursday, January 17, consisted of the top spellers from 2nd through 8th grade. The spellers were placed in two groups, Lower School and Middle School. [frame_right][/frame_right]
Sixteen students participated in the Lower School spelling competition, and performed wonderfully. Special Recognition from the Lower School goes to Isabela Denton and Laila Leak. Isabela and Laila went on to compete in the Middle School competition. Congratulations to Isabela Denton and Laila Leak for doing a great job.
Fourteen students from Middle School competed in the Spelling Bee. Savannah Norman, 8th grade student, was Runner-Up. [frame_right][/frame_right]Savannah did a fantastic job and was challenged with many difficult words. Winner for the 2012-2103 Spelling Bee is 8th grade student Sam Witner. On February 7, Sam will represent St. John’s in the Non-Public School Spelling Bee. Congratulations Sam! We are certainly proud of you and your accomplishment.
Spelling Bee participation improves students’ spelling skills and increases their vocabularies; in addition Spelling Bee competition provides valuable experience in developing skills in public speaking and performing arts.
